Hyde Park - As it Should Be

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Here is a fascinating article in the Washington Post Entitled Uncommon Ground.  It is about the neighborhood Hyde Park in Chicago.  The short of it is that McCain and Palin are trying to paint Obama as a leftist elitist from a quirky university town, out of touch with the rest of the country, while the place where Obama lives is potentially the most diverse place in america and really a great model for how things should be everywhere.

Having lived in Hyde Park for about a quarter of my adult life I agree - it is a rare example of an integrated, functional and prosperous city neighborhood - and a great place to live.  My only complaint is that, for a neighborhood that is  6 miles from the central city, it doesn’t have as much shopping and dining as I would expect.
